The XIV edition of the “Festa de la Ciència” of Barcelona’s city council will be held Sunday June 13 in the context of the second Biennal City and Science of Barcelona. This event offers a wide array of activities to reflect and debate about scientific knowledge to face the challenges of our century. You will be able to choose among options of all shapes and sizes: debates, talks, round tables, workshops, conferences, etc.
This year, some of the researchers of the Institute of Cosmos Sciences (ICCUB) will participate in this encounter offering the following activities:
ACTIVITY: QUARKS, ELS MAONS DE LA MATÈRIA
Organized by Assumpta Parreño, Íñigo Asiáin, Marc Illa, Glòria Montaña, Institute of Cosmos Sciences (ICCUB) and Department of Astrophysics and Quantum Physics (UB).
Have you ever wondered what the Universe is made of? Come to the workshop Quarks, the building blocks of matter and learn about the particles that make up all matter using a three-dimensional puzzle designed by CERN, the European Centre of Nuclear Research. With this activity, we will approach the fundamental laws that determine how these particles come together to form protons and neutrons.
- Date and time: Sunday, June 13, from 16h to 18h (20’ shifts per group)
- Location: Barceloneta Park
- Recommended Ages: from 10 to 18 years old
- More information and registration at the link.
ACTIVITY: QUANTUM MECHANICAL SIMULATIONS
Organized by Bruno Julià i Montserrat Guilleumas, Institute of Cosmos Sciences (ICCUB) and Department of Astrophysics and Quantum Physics (UB).
The tunnel effect, diffraction, Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle… Learn about the most fascinating quantum phenomena by playing a simulation-based game of different quantum systems.
- Date and time: Sunday, June 13, from 18 to 18:45h
- Location: Barcelona Biomedical Research Park, Charles Darwin Room.
- Recommended Ages: from 16 years old.
- More information and registration at the link.
WORKSHOP: 3D CONSTELLATIONS
Organized by Eduard Masana, Institute of Cosmos Sciences (ICCUB) and Department of Astrophysics and Quantum Physics (UB).
One of the most characteristic constellations of our sky is Orion. In this workshop you will build a model of Orion in three dimensions taking into account the position and distance among each of its stars. Afterwards you will enjoy a walk through the Milky Way with the help of the Gaia Satellite and discover how Orion appears from different points of view.
- Date and time: Sunday, June 13, from 19:15 to 20h
- Location: Barcelona Biomedical Research Park.
- Recommended Ages: from 12 to 16 years old.
