On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, different research institutes and faculties of the Diagonal Campus have organized, once again, a joint event that we hope will be well-received.

  • 15h “Modeling COVID19 from a perspective of complex systems” by Dra. Clara Granell (Univ. Rovira i Virgili)

The study of complex systems revolves around a fundamental pillar: the study of a system from the point of view of the interactions between the parts that make it up, beyond the individual characteristics of each part. This view of "seeing the forest" instead of "looking at the trees" allows us to observe behaviors that would not be easily deduced from the individual study of the components of the system. The human brain, social networks, biological systems or transport networks are examples of complex systems, as are epidemics of contagious diseases, where only the study of the complete system allows us to understand what the possible evolution of this will be. . In this talk, I will introduce the epidemic diffusion models that our research group has been developing over the last decade, up to the modeling of COVID-19, a key tool that, based on complex systems, has given us allowed to quantify and predict the evolution of the pandemic in our country.

  • 15:45h Round table: "Actions to make visible the work of women scientists"
