The director of the Institute of Cosmos Sciences (ICCUB-IEEC), Xavi Luri, will give the outreach talk “Cartography of the Milky Way” to the Young people of the Bibliolab Ciència Jove programme next Monday, December 13. This initiative invites us to the Sagrada Família-Josep M. Ainaud de Lasarte public library to bring research closer to the youth in several interactive sessions where knowledge and fun will be combined.

Here you have all the information about the event:

OUTREACH TALK: “CARTOGRAPHY OF THE MILKY WAY”

The spatial observatory Gaia, from the European Space Agency (ESA), is collecting data to create a three dimensional map of the Milky Way, with an unprecedented precision. What images are reaching us from outer space? How does the scientific community handle Gaia’s data? What can we find out about the origin and evolution of our galaxy?

When? Monday, December 13, at 6 pm

Where? Biblioteca Sagrada Família-Josep M. Ainaud de Lasarte

Aimed at Young people in between the ages of 12 and 18 years old

You can register to the activity by sending an email to b.barcelona.sf@diba.cat

Gaia has proven to be a powerful tool providing very precise astrometry and photometry in the first releases of the mission (see Gaia DR2 and Gaia DR1). The third release and beyond (find here the current release scenario planning) will include some calibrated spectrophotometric data.
