The speed of light was discovered at the Paris Observatory in 1676 from a study of the satellites of Jupiter, but the circumstances and the level of involvement of Rømer and Cassini caused much speculation and contradiction. We will explain the observations they used to make the discovery and a proposal about these contradictions based on astronomical arguments.
