The researcher Jordi Portell, from the Technological Unit of the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the University of Barcelona (ICCUB-IEEC) will offer an outreach talk to the Astronomical Group of Osona about the Gaia mission of the Space Agency European (ESA) tomorrow, Tuesday 20 December.

TALK: "THE GAIA MISSION: CONTENTS OF THE THIRD CATALOG AND FUTURE PROSPECTS"

On June 13, 2022, the third catalogue of the Gaia space mission was published, which includes many more types of astronomical data than in previous publications: extragalactic objects, binary stars, variable stars, asteroids, interstellar dust... as well as more astrophysical parameters, better precisions in astrometry and photometry, radial velocities for more stars, and for the first time, stellar spectra. In this colloquium, we will see all these new features, we will mention some of the main discoveries achieved thanks to this formidable catalogue, we will discuss some instrumental curiosities, and we will talk about the next milestones in the mission. If we have enough time, we will do some small interactive demo with the catalogue hosted on the ESA servers.
